The month of May was named for Maia, the Greek goddess of fertility. On the other hand, according to the Roman poet Ovid: “Bad girls wed in May.” And it was Julia Ward Howe, the author of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, who came up with the notion of a Mother's Day in 1870.
The Crow Canyon Rod and Gun Club is now formed and has a President, Bro. Phil Bush, and Secretary, Bro. Paul Rodriguez-OBrien. The Club is planning a Hunting and Gun Safety course in June and a deep sea fishing trip in July. Please see their message in this month’s Trestleboard.
Thanks to Bro. Eric Unti for putting together an excellent Public Schools Night. We honored teachers: Krista Samboy, of Chabot Elementary, and Kelly Abbott, from Redwood High School, with a framed certificate of appreciation and a $500.00 check. Our children are in good hands with such dedicated and caring teachers.
A big thank you to Bro. Perry Klahr for an excellent Sweethearts Brunch and Show event. During his work on the event Perry and his committee tried to follow up the written invitations with a phone call. They found many wrong numbers. If any of our Sweethearts did not receive a phone call, it means we don’t have a working number for you. Please contact Secretary Schauer to make sure we know how to contact you by phone.
May is another busy month. We will confer the 2nd Degree upon Bro. Andrew Hawes on May the 17th and Bro. Mick Bowers on May 24th. On Saturday May 12th Crow Canyon Lodge will join our youth groups on a float in the Rowell Rodeo Parade in Castro Valley. Then the following weekend, May 19th & 20th, we will host the Child ID program at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo. And another Potluck will be enjoyed on the 31st.
I want all of you to be fully informed about what is happening at the Lodge. As events and dates may change after the Trestleboard is published you need to have the Crow Canyon Lodge App on your smart phone. Not only is the most current calendar of Lodge events there but also information and discussions of interest to Masonry in general. THEREFORE all members who show the Sr. Steward the Lodge app on their phone at May’s Stated Meeting will receive a FREE dinner. If you don’t have the App and would like some help installing it, we will have expert Brothers there to help with it’s installation!
