From the South

By Andrew Hawes, PM — Jr. Warden

Wow, look at us, over 8 percent of the way through 2026.  We live in a world of technological marvels, taken for granted every day.  Our electronic alarms wake us in the morning, our computerized cars drive us to work (with less and less assistance from us) we can use a palm-sized device to check the time of day, read predictions about the future weather, and learn about events from around the world.  We can walk into a vehicle and sit down, and be whisked through the air at hundreds of miles per hour to arrive safely and comfortably at another place thousands of miles away a few hours later.

I myself spent the last week aboard a giant metal box that moved itself quickly over the ocean bearing thousands of people in it in luxurious comfort, living each day playing, eating, drinking, swimming, riding elevators and otherwise engaged in various leisure activities, while being delivered safely to exotic destinations.

We live in a world of wonders, and take most of them for granted, but it's important to remember that we have arrived here carried by the hard work, sweat and tears of generations before us.  We owe thanks to so many that it isn't even conceivable to thank them all. But we should still remember to be thankful, and do our part to both appreciate the efforts that have gotten us to this level of unprecedented luxury in our daily lives. Can we pay that forward, to help everyone around us to have a better day than they would have had, if we weren't in it?

Enjoy life, and help others do the same!

Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternity. It is comprised of adult men (18+) of good character from every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, his faith, his country, and his fraternity.
