From the South

Brethren,  welcome to the month of March. The month of March is named after Mars, the Roman God of War. During Roman times, it was actually the first month of the calendar year and signaled the time to resume military campaigns that were interrupted by winter weather.  It is during this month that we celebrate several special events- the return of Daylight Savings time on the 10th, Saint Patricks’ Day on the 17th, and Easter on the 31st. For avid and devoted gardeners like myself, March marks the beginning of Spring with the vernal equinox on the 19th. With the cold days of winter behind us, it’s now time to start thinking about this year’s garden with flowers or vegetables or both. Have a happy and eventful March!
